Program to Generate Reports

For a company that is dedicated to the maintenance of the public lighting in different populations of all Spain, we realize a program that collects the data of its server and processes them to make a report that must be presented to each city council. The report is an annual summary of activity, with indications of the interventions carried out and of new elements, repaired or replaced, plus the reason why. The document, about 30-50 pages long, is generated for each municipality. Our application groups the data, makes tables and generates graphs, which are printed in a Word document. The operator can add the corresponding explanatory text within the same document, but this is collected within the database, so that the final document is saved in the application, even if it is edited with Word.

The application has an Information Sources, Auxiliary Files, Data Import, and Report Management:

The first step is to import the data from the company’s main server. The import is done by delegation. Each delegation includes a town hall. There is a file per delegation, to incorporate the data in the report to be generated:

Once the data have been imported, we obtain the sources of information. The information is presented in the continuous form, because it does not have to be edited. We show three examples: Data on Streetlights, Control panels, Summary of repairs. There are also data for the points of light, and for the supports:

The Auxiliary Files (masters) complement the application. Some of them establish: Activities, Elements that can break down, Categories, Elements of the installation, State of the broken down element, Operation of the Control Panels, Data for each Delegation, Why the breakdowns, Types of Elements, Types of Points of Light, Types of Supports, etc.

The main activity of the programme is the generation of the report, which is made from the data collected for each delegation. The program makes a merge of data with Word, creating the document, with statistics, graphics and texts that the operator will finish editing for the final elaboration of the report. The reports are saved inside the application, so that the operator(s) who have to edit or print the report have to create it and obtain it through the Report Finder:
